Wealth brings many friends, but a poor man's friend deserts him.

| 5 | 作假见证的,必不免受罚。吐出谎言的,终不能逃脱。
A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will not go free.

| 6 | 好施散的,有多人求他的恩情。爱送礼的,人都为他的朋友。
Many curry favor with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of a man who gives gifts.

| 7 | 贫穷人弟兄都恨他,何况他的朋友,更远离他。他用言语追随,他们却走了。
A poor man is shunned by all his relatives--how much more do his friends avoid him! Though he pursues them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found.

| 8 | 得着智慧的,爱惜生命,保守聪明的,必得好处。
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who cherishes understanding prospers.

| 9 | 作假见证的,不免受罚。吐出谎言的,也必灭亡。

| 10 | 愚昧人宴乐度日,是不合宜的,何况仆人管辖王子呢?
It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury--how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!

A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.

A king's rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

| 13 | 愚昧的儿子,是父亲的祸患。妻子的争吵,如雨连连滴漏。
A foolish son is his father's ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.

| 14 | 房屋钱财。是祖宗所遗留的。惟有贤慧的妻,是耶和华所赐的。
Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

| 15 | 懒惰使人沉睡。懈怠的人,必受饥饿。
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless man goes hungry.

| 16 | 谨守诫命的,保全生命。轻忽己路的,必致死亡。
He who obeys instructions guards his life, but he who is contemptuous of his ways will die.

| 17 | 怜悯贫穷的,就是借给耶和华。他的善行,耶和华必偿还。
He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.

| 18 | 趁有指望,管教你的儿子。你的心不可任他死亡。
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.

| 19 | 暴怒的人,必受刑罚。你若救他,必须再救。
A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.

| 20 | 你要听劝教,受训诲,使你终久有智慧。
Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.

| 21 | 人心多有计谋。惟有耶和华的筹算,才能立定。
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD'S purpose that prevails.

| 22 | 施行仁慈的,令人爱慕。穷人强如说谎言的。
What a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.

| 23 | 敬畏耶和华的,得着生命。他必恒久知足,不遭祸患。
The fear of the LORD leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

| 24 | 懒惰人放手在盘子里。就是向口撤回,他也不肯。
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth!

| 25 | 鞭打亵慢人,愚蒙人必长见识。责备明哲人,他就明白知识。
Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke a discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.

| 26 | 虐待父亲,撵出母亲的,是贻羞致辱之子。
He who robs his father and drives out his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.

| 27 | 我儿,不可听了教训,而又偏离知识的言语。
Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.

| 28 | 匪徒作见证戏笑公平。恶人的口吞下罪孽。
A corrupt witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.

| 29 | 刑罚是为亵慢人预备的。鞭打是为愚昧人的背预备的。
Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
